Subject: A Saishiki painted wood ittobori (single knife carved) netsuke of an Uji tea picker woman, holding her basket of green tea leaves. Likely a souvenir of Uji, a town famous for green tea and matcha near Kyoto. This style of netsuke was also popular in nearby Nara, where the subject was usually Noh actors. Unpainted ittobori netsuke were typically rom Hida Takayama. Maker's mark on the base.
