Type: Pair of Sake Bottles (Tokkuri)
Material: Ceramic Pottery
Age: 20th C. (1900s)
Origin/Maker: Japan. Unsigned.
One rumor is that they were from the estate of Martha Longenecker and they came from Tatsuzo Shimaoka's kiln, oka gama, but the styles and clay are atypical, and with the damage (Shimaoka didn't sell flawed pieces) it seems unlikely.
My initial hunch was they could early Chinese style pieces by Kawai Kanjiro, as he used this same copper red glaze, and the clay and feet match some of early pieces. But I haven't found any tokkuri in this form to compare against.
Size: Each about 5 1/2" tall (13.97 cm)
Red Bottle Weight: 10.5 oz (299 g)
White Bottle Weight: 10.3 oz (293 g)
